Oven not heating? Here's what to check first

Straight up: we don't repair ovens. We test the circuit, the isolator and the connection, and if the oven itself has failed we say so. Often it's something you can check now.

Every price on the website is a quote, not a fixed charge. It assumes a standard single-storey home with the switchboard within reach. When your request comes through, Luke looks it over and sends you a quote to confirm. Once the job is done, that quote becomes your invoice.

What to do right now

Before you book anyone

  1. 1Check the clock. After a power cut most ovens won't heat until the clock is set. Flashing display means set it.
  2. 2Check the child lock and the timer. A locked panel or a timer set to auto stops the elements.
  3. 3Find the isolator switch, usually on the wall or bench near the oven, and the breaker at the board. Both on?
  4. 4Light and fan work but no heat: that's an element or thermostat. Ring the maker or an appliance repairer, not us.
  5. 5Nothing at all, no light, no clock, breaker keeps tripping: that's a power or connection fault, and that's us.

What it usually is

  • The clock flashing after a power cut. Set it and the oven comes back.
  • The isolator or the breaker off, often after other work in the house.
  • A failed element, thermostat or control board. Appliance repair, not an electrician.
  • A burnt connection at the oven terminal block or the isolator. Ours, and a quick fix.
  • An element leaking to earth and tripping the safety switch. We prove which, the element is the repairer's.
  • An oven past saving. Replacing it is often cheaper than the repair, and we book the install for the day it lands.

What we charge

Every visit has one $165 call-out, covering the trip and the first 30 minutes. It's already inside the first price you see. Anything else on the same visit shares the call-out, so extra jobs are usually cheaper. Appliances and fans are a flat price each. Whatever it turns out to be is quoted before we go further.

How it works

Three steps, no phone tag.
Step 1Book in 30 seconds

Name, mobile, address, a photo if you have one. Luke texts you back, usually the same working day.

Step 2Luke sends the quote to confirm

He looks over what you've sent, confirms the price and you pick the day. Nothing changes after that unless we tell you first.

Step 3We turn up and do the job

Found, fixed, tested, and you've agreed the price before we do it.

Questions people text us

Answered the way Luke answers them.
The oven is tripping the breaker, or something failed after the install. What now?

Text us and we sort it out. If the fault is in the appliance itself, a door, element or control, the store or manufacturer handles the claim, and we’ll put what we found in writing if they ask for it.

What time will you actually arrive? Can I get a tighter window than two hours?

Every booking has a two-hour arrival window, confirmed by text the day before. On the day we text when we’re on the way, so you’ll know within about 20 minutes. If you have a hard deadline, school pick-up or an appointment, tell us when you book and we put you first or last in the day.

Can you text or call me before you arrive?

Yes. Every job gets an on-our-way text as we leave the previous one. If you need more notice, say so in the booking notes and we call instead.

Do you charge a call-out fee and what does it cover?

A fault call-out covers the first 30 minutes on site and the diagnosis. If it’s fixable in that time there’s nothing more to pay. For installs and quoted jobs the call-out is already inside the first price you see, it’s never added on top.

“I've used Switch Electrical a few times over the past 2 years, installing a new oven, more power points, 2 hard wired smoke detectors and 13 downlights. I found them to be reliable, polite and a very fair reasonable price.”
